The 1st battalion fought at the Battle of Tel el-Kebir in September 1882 during the Anglo-Egyptian War, and then took part in the Nile Expedition in an attempt to relieve Major-General Charles Gordon during the Mahdist War. Le 1er bataillon combattit à Tel el-Kebir en septembre 1882 durant la guerre anglo-égyptienne avant de prendre part à l'expédition du Nil dans le but d'assister le Major-Général Charles Gordon durant la guerre des madhistes.
